It’s a little overdue, but all the details from our dinner with some very special guests is finally making it’s way to the blog! I received so many questions about who we were meeting in New York, how we knew them, etc. so I’ll just dive right into it.
Lee has met everyone under the sun throughout his career, and because of his job, it sometimes allows him a chance meeting with really neat people whether it be through friends of patients, co-workers, or just a random encounter from being in the right place at the right time.
Meet Lord Peter and Lady Wendy Levene. He is the former Lord Mayor of London and former Chairman of Lloyd’s of London insurance market and United Scientific (supplier to UK and overseas ministries of defense). He was knighted for his services to Defense and also served as advisor to the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in the eighties and nineties. As I type that, it still doesn’t come close to describing what all Lord Levene has done in his life, the people he has met, and all of his many accomplishments. He has met with the Queen on multiple occasions and is quite humble about it! I know that was bit of a mouthful, but there’s just no subtle introduction of this man! He truly has done so much in his lifetime, and it was so interesting to hear his perspective on the world. His wife, Lady Levene, is such a vibrant and kind woman and full of grace and elegance. Just what you would expect from a Lady. She was so sweet, and told me so much about the royal family and her experiences interacting with them. She is the mother of a British Royal ship and has also met the Queen (and pretty much the entire royal family). Everything they shared just left Lee and I in awe of them. It was such an honor to join them for dinner and having the opportunity to sit down with a member of British Parliament was truly a once in a lifetime experience. I don’t think I’ve ever been so concerned about my manners and how I ate my food!
I’ll be honest, I had no idea what to wear! I knew I needed to be more conservative, but I still wanted to stay true to who I am and my love for a statement. The first dress I tried on (one I already had in my closet) was a definite no from Lee. It had some ruffles on the shoulders and he was like “Babe, this isn’t fashion week…think a little less loud and less ruffles”. Ha! So I came across this dress at one retailer, but it was out of stock in my size, and then would you believe I found the darn thing on AMAZON!? I swear they have it all, including high end clothing. As soon as I tried it on and showed it to Lee, he was like “Yes! That’s the one!” I kept my accessories simple and carried this clutch (which I absolutely LOVE). All in all, I was very happy with our looks and felt they were appropriate for the occasion. Lord Levene even said we looked sharp so as long as he was pleased then so was I!

It was a quick trip, but it sure was a memorable one. From the moment I met Lee, life has been full of wild adventures, and some days I still can’t believe this is my life. This particular weekend, we were definitely taken out of our comfort zones because we were so nervous we would mess up, but it ended up being one of the neatest and most interesting experiences we’ve ever had. Now we’re just waiting for our double date with Harry and Meghan. Haha! Just kidding! Maybe. 😉
