Happy Tuesday, friends! We are back from our trip and slowly getting back into the swing of things. This past weekend with Lee in New York City was so much fun! I was a little hesitant about going at first because he used to live there and isn’t a fan of the city, the noise, the smells….it’s just not his thing. Me, on the other hand, can’t get enough of it! I grew up in a smaller town that didn’t have big cities really close by so every time I get near all the big buildings and the fast pace of it all, I feel like I’m in a movie, and it’s just such a fun experience for me! I’m happy to report that Lee really did enjoy himself, and I think we both appreciated the adult time just the two of us. It was like old times where we got to laugh, be immature, and just do whatever the heck we wanted!
Anyway, I’m sure you’d rather be hearing the details of where we stayed and where we ate so I’ll get right to it! We stayed at the Four Seasons New York (Uptown), and it was amazing! Anytime you stay at a Four Seasons, it’s always the same. Excellent service, gorgeous ambiance, and the showers there are just the best! They had champagne and chocolate waiting in our room with a sweet note, and it gave our arrival such special little touch. We stayed in the Gotham Junior Suite, which had a terrace, and that was definitely where we spent all of our time while we were at the room. It had views of different buildings, you could hear the hustle and bustle of the city, and the weather was perfect for spending our downtime outside talking.
For dinner the first night, the concierge recommended Il Mulino (Uptown) since we were craving italian. When I tell you it was the best meal I’ve ever had, I mean it with every ounce of my being! It was within walking distance from our hotel so we took in the city while we strolled to dinner. I ordered the fettuccine alfredo (so basic, I know), but the cream sauce was unbelievable, and the shaved truffles on top nearly had me in tears it was so good. Good grief, I sound like a food blogger now! Seriously though, they had wonderful service, and it was a quaint little spot perfect for an intimate dinner with the one you love.
Dress: Free People (It’s ON SALE too!!) | Boots: Marc Fisher | Handbag: Saint Laurent
We can’t forget the outfit details for dinner! This dress is a current obsession of mine because the fit is so flattering, and I can never get enough animal print in my life! These boots are a great staple for the upcoming season, and I love that the toe is pointed. It gives it a dressier look without killing your toes, which I was so thankful for!
On Saturday, we didn’t have any set plans during the day so we ordered room service for breakfast and strolled around the city and explored Central Park! We sat on the giant rocks, Lee pretended to be Bear Grylls, and I had to stop and pee every 10 minutes so we stayed true to who we are and laughed at ourselves the entire time!
Sweater: Free People | Jeans: Articles of Society | Boots: Sam Edelman (these are old….nearly exact boot here) | Hat: Treasure & Bond | Handbag: Gucci
Since it was the first day of fall, I had to dress according to the season! This sweater can be worn as a tunic over leggings or oversized with jeans. It’s so soft and comes in several colors. I’m loving the baker boy hat trend so I was excited to throw this one on for the day. My handbag was an anniversary gift, and something I wasn’t expecting at all! We had decided we wouldn’t get gifts this year, just have a fun experience together, but clearly that just isn’t how Lee Buono works. I could not be more in love with this bag!! The suede is perfect for a casual look this time of year, but I also love the shiny black leather that still keeps the style elevated and classy. Before heading back to our hotel to get ready for dinner, we stopped at Ray’s Pizza and had a slice because that’s just something you have to do when you’re in New York! See what I mean about eating nonstop?? Haha!
Since Saturday was our actual anniversary, we decided to have dinner at Porter House Bar and Grill because it’s supposed to be an amazing steakhouse, and they have the most gorgeous views of Central Park. The service was a little off, but the food was amazing!
After dinner, we went to Caroline’s On Broadway to see Tom Green perform. He was hilarious!! There are a ton of celebrities and legendary comics that perform there so if you are ever looking for something like that while visiting the city, I would definitely recommend going there. They served food and drinks during the show, and there’s also a bar if you’d like to have cocktails before it starts. To cap off the night, I made Lee (well, I had to agree to spend a night camping in the woods) walk with me through Times Square because that’s another thing you just have to do when you’re there! He’s actually never seen it at night even though he lived there, and he couldn’t believe how bright, loud, and neat it was to see. We also met the sweetest couple while we were there so I’m really happy we took the time to check it out.
Top: Self-Portrait (also here) | Leggings: Spanx | Shoes: Stuart Weitzman | Handbag: Saint Laurent (budget friendly option here)
I knew I needed this top for our special night out so I hunted it down several weeks ago. I didn’t care if we went to McDonald’s to celebrate our anniversary, I was going to wear it because it’s like a piece of art! I had so many compliments on it, and I will absolutely be an outfit repeater with this little beauty!
Before we left to come home, we decided to have brunch at The Garden, which is in the Four Seasons, and it was the perfect way to cap off a great weekend. The atmosphere is exactly what you would expect from this resort….beautiful and relaxing!
Sweater: J. Crew | Leggings: Spanx | Denim Jacket: Free People | Shoes: Vince | Hat: Treasure & Bond (nearly identical here) | Sunglasses: Quay Australia | Handbag: Gucci
We stopped at the 9/11 Memorial before we headed home, and I was so glad I packed this sweater and jacket because the weather was actually pretty cool. I love all things camo, and I’m so excited it’s having such a fashion moment right now! Hope you enjoyed reading about our trip!
