During both of my pregnancies, I suffered from hormonal melasma (discoloration of the skin) on my face, and it left me with uneven skin tone that was hard to cover up. I remember looking at pictures of when we came home from the hospital with Nicholas, and I swear you would have thought someone smeared dirt on my face! Of all the things they prepare you for and warn you about during pregnancy, that was something no one had mentioned so it caught me off guard and had me wondering what the heck happened to my face! After talking to a dermatologist, it was quickly determined that I did, in fact, have hormonal melasma, and there were different treatment options available. I did three BBL (Broad Band Light) treatments, and they helped significantly, but didn’t correct it completely. So now, I’ve learned I just have to be creative with covering up the little bit of discoloration I have left on my skin, which is why I had to do this post!
I’ve tried several different foundations in my search for the perfect one, and I have to say, MAC’s Pro Longwear Foundation is the reigning champion among all of them. I have been using it for years now because it is definitely full coverage, and it gives me more of an even skin tone than all of the others I have tried. It is a little heavier so for some people it may not be for them. But for me, it gets the job done so I don’t see myself switching to anything else anytime soon. Recently, I did try two other foundations because I had heard so much about them so I wanted to share with you my thoughts on the products.
The first product I tried was NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Liquid. I wanted to love this so much, but it just didn’t do it for me. It was very watery, and practically dripping off my face if I didn’t blend it in quick enough. The coverage was descent, but it didn’t knock my socks off. I use NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer, and I am OBSESSED with it so I was disappointed the foundation didn’t perform as well as the concealer.
The second foundation I tried was Estee Lauder Double Wear. I have seen this everywhere lately and have heard bloggers rave about it so I knew I had to give a whirl. I have to say, I really did like it! It felt very light on my skin, and it gave me really good coverage. The only drawback was that it didn’t have a pump on the bottle, so you had to pour it onto your beauty blender or hand to get it out. But that is a minor issue, and nothing that deters from how it holds up as a foundation.
I still catch myself going back to my MAC foundation, and maybe that is just because I am a creature of habit and sticking to what has worked for me for so long is just what I do. Ha! If MAC’s makeup is too heavy for you or you don’t necessarily need that much coverage, I would definitely recommend Estee Lauder’s Double Wear!
