Nearly all my life, I have had long hair. About two years ago, I decided to cut it all off because I was ready to change things up a bit and get a fresh new look. I loved having shorter hair! It was fun, flirty, easy to fix, and something different than the style I had for so many years. It wasn’t until recently that I started getting an itch for my long hair again. Since extensions have become so popular these days, I decided to talk to my stylist about getting them. Once we went over the cost and how the process works, I decided to just go for it!
The whole process was surprisingly really easy. My hairdresser, Nicole, matched me up with the right hair color, and ordered it for me so I could just come in and have them put in. Since I’ve been rocking the ombre’ look for quite some time now, we ordered pieces that were also ombre’ and included some solid blonde pieces to place around my face. She had to color the darker parts of the hair that would be closer to my roots, and they were a perfect match. I did learn you can color the extensions, but you can’t bleach them, so the option to go darker is always there, you just can’t take it back to a lighter shade.
Having the extensions put in was so much faster than I imagined! I chose extensions that are taped in because they were the safest option for my hair and the least damaging. The first step was to wash and dry my hair. She then divided my hair into sections and placed pieces in a horseshoe shape around my head, followed by adding pieces around my face as needed. It took about an hour and a half for Nicole to tape all of the pieces in, and then she had to texturize and trim the hair so that everything blended together. It didn’t hurt, wasn’t nearly as time consuming as I thought it would be, and the final product was even better than I imagined! I had forgotten what it felt like to have long, luxurious hair, and to have that back has really been a confidence booster that I didn’t even know I needed. There is some maintenance that comes with having extensions. As your hair grows, you’ll need to have the extensions taken out and taped back in closer to the root, and that’s something that is done every eight to twelve weeks. It’s recommended you use sulfate free shampoo, and to brush your hair often to prevent the hair from knotting.
Overall, I am ecstatic about my new hair! If you’ve ever thought about getting extensions, I’m here to tell you they are so fun, and it’s an investment you’ll be happy you made. That’s the case for me, at least. We used Babe Hair extensions and you can check out all of their different color options here.
If you’re in the South Jersey area, do yourself a favor and visit Artistre Salon & Spa. Not only is Nicole an artist when it comes to doing my hair, but she’s also become a friend. They have such a relaxed atmosphere, and they make you feel like part of the family every time you set foot in the door. They are even sweet enough to pass around Ella during my appointments so I can have a few moments of relaxation to myself. If that’s not excellent customer service, I don’t know what is! You can check out some of Nicole’s work here.
If you have any questions that weren’t answered in this post, feel free to the leave them in the comments or shoot me an email! I’m off to go whip my hair in the wind and pretend to be Ariel in the bathtub!
